Interest groups

interest group Activities

Interest group Activities

Interest groups are formed by individuals from our PROBUS Club membership who have a common interest in a particular activity. An interest group usually meets periodically throughout the year on whatever schedule the group decides. Groups have no formal attendance requirements; most are at no cost and members get to socialize while being involved in the group’s activities.

Hand and Foot Canasta (card game) – Coordinator Amber D'Aguiar

Hand & Foot is a fun and challenging card game played in groups of four. We play on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the afternoon. Lessons are held from 1-2 p.m. for new players and for those who need practice, and then we continue to play from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome. NOTE: Hand and Foot will NOT be hosted in March. We will continue to play in April – the date is April 21st.

Book Club – Coordinator Wendy Bond

The Book Club is full; a waitlist is available, please include your name on the list if you are interested.

During the February meeting we discussed “The Heiress” by Rachel Hawkins. What a wonderful group of ladies who meet to share opinions and thoughts mixed in with lots of laughs. Some loved the book and others didn’t, not even finishing it. This is the advantage of a Book Club; we are introduced to books we would not normally read. The discussions are lively and tend to change paths to topics connected with the plot or onto other unrelated topics of interest (wonderful tidbit

Wine Club – Coordinator Lorraine Ward

Members take turns hosting. The host decides on a theme, selects and buys the wine. Cost is $10.00 per event and everyone brings a dish to the tasting, pot-luck style afternoon of appetizers. Our February event was hosted by Paul Heney. We tasted wines from the Niagara region. A great afternoon!

The Wine Club group is full – a waitlist is available. If you are interested in coordinating a second group, please reach out to interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com.

Arts & Crafts Interest Group – Coordinator Maureen Wood

This group meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

Board Games – Coordinator Nancy Steele

I am going to kick off board games finally on Monday, March 23rd pending people’s availability. Emails have been sent to the interested people to have people pick their game of choice and when they can host. If interested in joining, email  nterestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com

Puzzle Interest Group – Coordinator Maureen Wood

Meetings are the 1st Tuesday of the month. The group continues to meet monthly.

Euchre Group – Coordinator Marilyn Howe.

Our next euchre gathering is Wednesday March 11th. If interested, please send an email message to:

interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com

Lunch Group – Coordinator Zana Maksimovic

On Friday, February 13th, several of us lunchers sampled the wonderful fare at Muko Korean and Oriental (and sushi!) place in Uxbridge. None of us really had sushi / sashimi, but the food was great! We will be dining at Sundays or The Fig in March – an email will be out shortly.

For April, we are visiting The Twisted Fork in Mt. Albert. Hope to see you there! All the

lunches are on the second Friday in the month at 12:30 p.m.

The sign-up sheet is here for all upcoming lunches at https://tinyurl.com/SUP-Lunch-Signup

BUNCO Group (Progressive Dice Game) – Coordinators Sue and Bob Armitage

The next Bunco games are held at the home of Sue & Bob Armitage in Uxbridge.

Please contact us at bobarmitage1@gmail.com or 416.271.5139 if you are interested in joining us.

Hiking & Outdoors Group – Coordinator Pam Norton

The hiking group continues to trek on Friday mornings and with hikes through the winter. Feel free to reach out via email or WhatsApp if you want to hike on a different day and are looking for some company. If anyone is interested in taking over as coordinator for the group, please send us an email interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com

***NEW***

Walking and Talking – Coordinator Required

There has been a lot of interest in a walking group and we started a signup sheet at the February meeting.  This walking group would meet for urban walks followed by coffee. If you are interested in joining this group or would consider becoming the coordinator, email  interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com.  We will get this group off the ground when there is enough interest and we find a coordinator for the group.

Live Music Group – Coordinator Pam Norton

We are looking for a new coordinator for this group who can organize gatherings at some of the local music venues.

Travel Information – Coordinator Tim Casey

We have an exciting list of informative travel presentations planned for 2026-2027. Travel is changing very quickly these days. And because of that, it's increasingly important to stay on top of where to go and where (maybe) not to go, as well as being aware of emerging travel opportunities and issues and useful travel tips. March's meeting will be on Monday, March 23rd, and will feature group member Janet Van Camp speaking about South Africa. All Probus Club members are

welcome!

Golf Group – Birdies & Bogeys – Coordinator Kim Lendvay

Several members contacted Kim last season expressing their interest in playing golf. Kim will be sending an email this month to anyone who has contacted her about joining this interest group so that decisions can be made on when & where to play this season. This will continue to be a joint Interest Group between the Port Perry Probus and the Scugog-Uxbridge Probus clubs until we get additional members and a coordinator from SUP. If you want to be added to the list for golf season 2026, please email interest.portperryprobus@gmail.com. Kim is also looking for a co-coordinator

to assist with this interest group

Pickleball  –Coordinators Nancy Steele and Marilyn Lee

Outdoor Pickleball will resume in the Spring 2026. In the meantime, there is a nice drop in Pickleball in Scugog at Scugog Recreation Center, they have both a Learn to Play program with lessons as well as a learn to play drop-in session. Please reach out for more information. interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com

Kitchen Bridge – Coordinator Mary Bristow

We meet every Tuesday, with the exception of the 3rd Tuesday of each month. This conflicts with Hand and Foot. Eric Nidd has kindly been providing Bridge bidding lessons for us. We are a lively, inquisitive group and are very grateful that Eric is willing to share his expertise with us. Please email interestgr.scugoguxbridgeprobus@gmail.com if interested

Genealogy – Coordinator Neil Kilmartin

The genealogy interest group has disbanded as our numbers were too low to continue our activities.
